Hello! I’m Carmen, and I’m a current Work-Exchanger at EarthDance. I am coming from Toronto, where I live with my husband and work as a freelance theatre artist as an actor, director, creator and producer.  My artistic practice has been inspired by live theatre’s potential for co-creation and improvisation with audiences. Past explorations have included interactive crosswalk dances, pop-up sidewalk theatre, site-specific improvised dance theatre, map-following multi-venue murder mysteries, online collaborative puzzle-solving, pick-your-own pathway performances, and participatory kids shows about grief and repairing friendships. I am a co-founder of The Fox Den Collective, a female-led indie theatre company that collaboratively creates new plays that center audience agency and meaningful participation. 

I am persistently interested in encounters with people and places in real space and real time. I also have a deep value of my own body, and the ways that our bodies know and experience the world. It is an incredible pleasure to be spending some sustained time at EarthDance, living, working, and soaking up all the opportunities for improvised dance and connection.

Pa-Kua is an ancient knowledge that has served humanity, from ancient times to the present, in an attempt to understand the changes and adapt to them in order to live in a state of greater harmony. Pa-Kua is primarily about change. Constant and never-ending change!

Contact Improv and Circling! Both are practices of presence; of simultaneous attunement to self and other; of expression and connection. Both support us in building a culture of authentic connection. Both develop in us a receptivity to each moment, and the freedom to respond creatively and authentically. With Circling, one might say, we extend the principles of CI from the physical into the verbal mode of connecting.

Bring attention to sensations, starting this “micro” journey inwards – a journey that connects us to what’s small and concrete, that enables us to perceive physicality from a contemplative state.
It could be the first impulse towards embodying movement, towards awakening instinctive-intuitive memories of what it means to move, explore space, explore the relationship with the floor and the interaction with others, giving rise to the state of presence that curiosity offers us. All levels of dance experience welcome!

The Countertechnique® class is a contemporary dance technique class. It stretches, coordinates and strengthens the body, making the dancer sweat, build stamina and really move.
The class starts with a recurring set of exercises, allowing dancers to investigate the Countertechnique® principles in detail. The second half of the class consists of changing components, working towards luscious movement combinations and jumping at the end.

Our Summer Jam (F.K.A July 4th) is a special and epic yearly event… family-inclusive, outdoor inviting, camping centered, and full of opportunity to dance, play, swim, and simply be within a communal setting. A children’s program both supports the parents as well as creates a container for children to explore together as well as with adults. We’re excited to announce this summer’s hosts Eliana Bonard and Frieda Kipar Bay! Eliana is joining us from Argentina(!!) is a dancer, choreographer, and teacher. Frieda recently moved to Western Massachusetts from the Bay Area, is a herbalist, dancer, Qi Gong teacher and mother of 2.

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia.

The NC is an itinerant school for the principle study and application of the Axis Syllabus. Rather than a festival, or celebration, The NC is what it’s title suggests, an intensive study context. The study of the AS is meant to empower the individual to defend and promote their own health and the health of those they might be responsible for, in other words to sponsor responsible autonomy.
