Shura Baryshnikov is a Rhode Island-based educator, improvisor, dancer, and movement designer. With a background in physical theatre, Contact Improvisation, and contemporary dance technique, Shura seeks the creative space where these mediums overlap to inspire somatic exploration and performer versatility. Shura instructs in the Department of Theatre Arts and Performances Studies at Brown University, as well as at Moses Brown School and at Festival Ballet Providence School. Shura has been a guest instructor in dance and improvisation at Dean College, Rhode Island College, and MIT, and was a guest choreographer at Salve Regina University in 2014. She has worked as a movement designer and consultant for Trinity Repertory Company, The Wilbury Theatre Group, Bridge Repertory Theater, and Elemental Theatre Collective, and has performed with Aerplaye Dance, American Dance Legacy Initiative, Festival Ballet Providence, Lostwax Multimedia Dance, akb & co, as well as with a number of independent choreographers. Shura's performance work has been presented by the RISD Museum, the Providence Fringe Festival, and in Earthdance's Moving Arts Lab.
