Lou Sturm

Dancer, choreographer and multi-media artist from Germany; resides in Xalapa, Mexico.  Lou has presented her choreographies, dance-theatre and site-specific pieces, improvisations and performances in  Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium, India and Mexico.  

She has been invited to festivals such as  PERFORMÁTICA, DANCE FESTIVAL AUROVILLE, DANCE FESTIVAL ANTIGUA GUATEMALA, DANZAEXTREMA and  FESTIVAL FILMARTE. Her full evening shows “tocanTIERRA” and “No quiero que bailes” received the CACHO ‘E TABLA as best dance piece in 2009 and 2010. Her piece "Living on sugar - versión frappé" won the award PREMIO CULIACÁN DE COREOGRAFÍA 2011.  Her video-dances “welke & blume” and “Zebra Me Red” have been screened at Short-Cut Festivals in Hamburg, Stockholm, Glasgow, San Francisco and Xalapa. Lou has studied Contemporary Dance at the ETAGE/Berlin and with teachers such as  Libby Farr, Janett Panetta, Frey Faust, Joe Alegado, Tim Golliher, Jeremy Nelson, Iñaki Azpillaga, Nancy Stark-Smith, David Zambrano, Sarah Pearson, Daniel Lepkoff, Andrew Harwood, Jan Miller, Kirstie Simpson, among others. She studied classical  Indian dance (Bharatanatyam,  Odissi, Mohiniyattam) and yoga during 2002 and 2003 in India. 

In 2004 she certificated as Community Performance Teacher at the  Lola-Rogge-Schule in  Hamburg. In 2012 Yoga-Alliance certification as Ashtanga Yoga Teacher.  Lou has been studying Body-Mind-Centering since 2000 with Sygun Schenk, Horst Viral and Kurt Koegl and is currently finishing the certification process as Somatic Movement Facilitator with Mark Taylor (Body-Mind-Movement).
Lou is founder and director of the company TEMPESDANZA. In 2011 and 2013 the company received the production scholarship PECDAV by INSTITUTO VERACRUZANO DE LA CULTURA.  Lou has been teaching Contemporary Dance/ Release Technique,  Contact Improvisation, Improvisation, Video-Danza and Yoga for beginners till professionals during the last 12 years, recently at the Universidad Veracruzana, Festín de CI Buenos Aires, Festival PERFORMATICA, Festival DANZAEXTREMA, Universidad de las Américas Puebla and  Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Hidalgo.
