Carolyn (Shakti) Sadeh has been teaching Authentic Movement, Action Theater, and yoga for over 30 years. She is an improvisor by nature whether in the studio, the classroom, the kitchen, or the garden. These past 8 years she has been immersed in the world of ESL, teaching immigrant and refugee adults English. Shakti re-entered the world of performance 3 summers ago with a Pina Baush-inspired piece directed by Sheryl Stoodley and Toby Bercovici. The following summer the ensemble, made up of some new members, brought the show to Brooklyn. A year ago Shakti created a one-woman-show called "Offering it Up" directed by Toby Bercovici. She has been touring the show in Massachusetts and around the country. She and Cassie have been on the floor together over the past twenty years practicing Action Theater and are so delighted to be teaching together.
Cassie Tunick performs, writes, and teaches. Her physical theater works have played on stages across the U.S. and in Germany, France, the Netherlands, and Estonia. She is a Senior Teacher of Ruth Zaporah’s Action Theater, devoting herself to the practice and development of physical improvisation for the last 27 years - she currently teaches at Emerson College and Boston University, with smaller workshops in NY and Estonia. In 2009 she founded Second Nature, a company with Heather Harpham and Danny Tunick, performing extensively in many NYC venues. Other theatrical collaborators include InkBoat (Butoh dance), Reflex Ensemble (experimental music), Lake Ivan Productions (video and film), and Abby Bender (dance). She holds an MFA in Writing and Poetics from Naropa University and edited Ruth Zaporah’s Improvisation on the Edge, Notes from On and Off Stage. Her ongoing fascination with the nature of being continues within the daily body, as a vehicle for the mind and imagination to express itself visibly.
