Earthdance survives changing vision, changing times

BACK in 1986, a loose-knit group of dance enthusiasts from Boston asked: Is it possible to escape city life, share a house and children, and give themselves over to pursuing art in the bosom of Mother Nature?

They found their answer in a ramshackled farmhouse and 175 acres in Plainfield that became the community called Earthdance. Ten dancers bought it with visions of turning the rundown Property into an "intentional community" and a retreat for dancers and other creative types.

The New Year's Jam: CELEBRATE

A Five Day Contact Improvisation Gathering

December 27, 2011 - 6:00pm to January 1, 2012 - 11:00am

Our biggest Contact Improvisation event of the year! What better way to let go of holiday stress and ring in the New Year than to dance till the wee hours? Frosted air, a ritual bonfire, twinkling winter stars, and plenty of warm bodies on the dance floor. Every year it's a special event, co-created by the people who attend. Come imagine a magical end of the old year and blessed beginning of the new one. To assure your spot, please register before Thanksgiving.

Nancy Stark Smith 3-week Training

January 2, 2012 - 6:00pm to January 20, 2012 - 3:00pm

The January 2012 OPEN training is a residential workshop specifically designed to develop our practice of contact improvisation and other related improvised dance work. The workshop will include physical training, improvisation and composition scores, listening practice, jamming, watching, discussion, feedback, labs, contemplative practice, and performance studies.

In solo, duet, trio, and group work; in and out of contact; in silence and with live music, we will move toward greater clarity and inspiration in our dancing and watching.
