The Julius Ford/Harriet Tubman Healthy Living Community (JFHTHLC), an inter-generational and evolving learning community, works together with youth of color and other marginalized youth to foster social justice and vibrant communities through year-round experiences to engage in critical thinking, leadership development, self-expression, cultural exchange and environmental sustainability.
Continuing to carry forward the legacy of Julius Ford, the JFHTHLC formed an International Exchange Collective, which has been working with Crossing the Waters Institute for Cultural Exchange to plan for our first, of what we envision to be many, in-depth cultural exchange programs—our first being to South Africa.
We aim to bring an intergenerational group to the township of Nyanga (which is located in Cape Town, South Africa). Our group will engage in a two-week program that will include cultural, environmental and artistic exchanges with our partner community.
We are working to educate ourselves about the country and communities we will be visiting through participating in monthly workshops. For the past year and a half, we have been meeting monthly to learn about South Africa--the people, the country, the culture and the history. We have also been working to raise funds but need your help to make this amazing journey come to fruition.
