Earthdance’s annual Falling Leaves Jam is centered around themes of transition and harvest. As summer’s growth fades and falls to the ground, an atmosphere of introspection, questioning, and transformation opens up for the practice of Contact Improvisation (CI). The Falling Leaves Jam is guided by physical and political inquiry, new friendships, discussions about privilege and oppression, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Scholarships, POC jam spaces, crisp dances, and piles of colorful leaves. This jam averages 40–50 people and is particularly geared toward anyone looking to engage in the social, cultural, and political layers of CI practice and community.

While Earthdance is making efforts to better support Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) at all its events, the Falling Leaves Jam offers particularly strong support for diversity, equity, and inclusion. This support appears as:

  • DEI Scholarships awarded to people self-identifying as being underrepresented and/or marginalized in CI (more info below)
  • group meetings that nurture scholarship recipients throughout the event
  • classes and discussions that aim to bring up the level of awareness and inclusion at the jam as a whole
  • affinity spaces (jams, discussions, etc.) for particular groups of people—e.g. PoGM, LGBTQIA+, differently-abled, immigrant—to connect, share CI space together, and rest from the pressures of being in a minority status at the jam

The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Scholarship is open until September 15 (deadline extended). This Scholarship is for anyone who has a budding relationship with CI, feels they are part of an underrepresented and/or marginalized group in CI, and who has not attended an Earthdance seasonal jam before. We acknowledge that those who come from marginalized populations showing up to spaces occupied by those from primarily more dominant groups is a challenge, and can be vulnerable. As a part of the Scholarship program, we’re offering facilitation support and optional programming that will be a way in for those who haven’t found their way to an Earthdance seasonal jam before. Learn More & Apply >>

Participant Community Support
As Earthdance runs as a community, all participants contribute to 1-2 work shifts (typically meal cleans) throughout the jam/workshop and will participate in a final house clean on Sunday, October 20th. These are great ways to connect more with your fellow participants and Earthdance staff, and to feel more at home in the Earthdance buildings & grounds. Your contributions to this collective caring of this space are invaluable!
