Once a month the Umbrella Studio fills with a celebration of movement and music! A live soundscape is provided by a local musican. Bring your own instruments to join in after 10pm.
All dance levels and styles are welcome.
Jerry Bussiere is a music teacher and multi-instrumentalist who has been very active in the greater Boston dance world since 1975. He has been a staff accompanist for Modern Dance classes at many of the area’s colleges, high schools and studios including Emerson College, Harvard University, M.I.T., Summer Stages at Concord Academy, Cambridge School of Weston, The Dance Complex and Green Street Studios. He has composed scores and produced soundtracks for Jody Weber Dance, Nicole Pierce and EgoArt Inc. and Cheri Opperman, all of whom he regularly plays for in Cambridge.
Jerry began collaborating with improvising dancers in the late 1980s and since then has performed at many Cambridge jams. He has enjoyed creating art with movement and music with Oliver Besson, Shakti Smith, Debra Bluth, Martha Armstrong Gray, Patrick Crowley and many others. For dance jams, Jerry prefers to work with acoustic instruments with the intent of creating an intimate interplay between musician and dancers. Instruments employed include guitars, voice, djembe, gungon, cymbals, various percussion instruments, flutes and thumb piano.
Jerry is a member of the Applied Music Faculty at Tufts University where he teaches guitar and lectures on Jazz improvisation.
