From the Director's Loft: What does your Umbrella look like?

This past weekend, the Earthdance Board of Directors and Executive leadership gathered once again for our annual Board Retreat, (my 4th!), at the beautiful homestead  Peaceable Barn, in Connecticut (big shout out and gratitude to Leslie and Eric!!), to...not exactly retreat, but certainly to re-invigorate the Vision of Earthdance and our Stewardship of it!

Thanks to the work of the Board and Executive Directors, Diversity Committee, Staff and Community over the last several years, we were able to navigate our way through the not so simple conversations: What is Earthdance? Who is Earthdance?, Where are we now and where are we headed?  After hours of discussing the great diversity of stakeholders, programs, visions and ideals, along with the recent data we've gathered through surveys and community dialogue...we solved all of Earthdance's problems and created an entire Strategic Plan for the next 20 years.

No, just kidding...but what we DID do, through the visionary guidance of our brilliant Associate Director, Jess Lotak, was create individual and collaborative versions of the WHAT, WHY and HOW we do what we do here at Earthdance, through the visual of an UMBRELLA...

Our Umbrellas threaded together the common understandings, that first and foremost: Earthdance cultivates embodiment and embodied practice; we are also a community (a model for living), and the heart of our practices center around improvisation and interdisciplinary exchange and thinking- from our Cornerstone of C.I. to many other practices. We engage in our core value of social justice, by viewing and sharing all practice through the lenses of inclusion, and intercultural exchange.

If you were to create the UMBRELLA graphic of your life: What would the handle be? How many colors do you have? How do the individual values of each panel work together to create the whole?

in community, solidarity, action, vision and commitment,
