ReSourcing Presence: In Pursuit of the Ensemble in Contact Improvisation

with Nita Little and Ray Chung

August 14, 2017 - 5:00pm - August 20, 2017 - 3:00pm

This week-long workshop engages Contact Improvisation in an intensive practice & study of ensemble dancing. Through embodied attention training, physical studies, improvisation, compositional scores, discussions, and group research sessions, we develop our collective response-ability by means of the articulation of our presence. Becoming feral, we ride the lip of experimentation.

This workshop is open for all Intermediate to Advanced CI dancers. Skillful movers in other forms are welcome to connect if they are interested.

Nita Little

Nita Little has been delving into the significance of improvisational dance actions the entirety of her professional career, which began with the emergence and development of Contact Improvisation (CI). Originally a modern dancer, she trained with José Limón and first generation Graham and Cunningham dancers as well as Judson pioneers including Judith Dunn, her mentor in ensemble improvisation.

Ray Chung

Ray Chung is a performer, teacher, engineer, and artist who has a passion for dancing which he likes to share with other people. His main focus is improvisation and he has worked with Contact Improvisation since 1979 as part of improvisational performance practice and integrates other movement forms into his work, including martial arts, bodywork and Authentic Movement.
