Contemporaneity and Tradition in West Africa  - The Axis Syllabus, an instrument for the non-colonialist support of contemporary dance in Bénin.

The Axis Syllabus is a trans-disciplinary research and education platform and a tool for information mining and information transmission.  In a nutshell, the objective of this system is to propose a practical method for instilling safe reflexes and logical responses to the problems of moving.  Earthdance is hosting Axis Syllabus' Nomadic College for the month of June.  


Sebastian Grubb
Sebastian is a movement artist and personal trainer based in San Francisco. He performs, choreographs and teaches dance from the perspectives of artistry and health. He has toured nationally with AXIS Dance Company since 2009, and has performed in Scott Wells & Dancers since 2008. His choreographic work has been both commissioned and self-produced, and has been shown extensively in the SF Bay Area and also in Florida, Washington State, and Washington, DC. Sebastian is a participating member of the 2012 Choreographers in Mentorship Exchange (CHIME), a project of the Margaret Jenkins Dance Company. He is also a certified teacher of the Axis Syllabus.
In addition to dancing, Sebastian is a private fitness instructor for individuals and small groups. Most of this work is done outside in parks, on stairways and up hills. However, he also trains clients in his private studio. He is a firm believer in training the body and mind as an integrated whole in order to achieve sustainable results on all levels. He also offers nutrition coaching to his clients and writes about many health-related subjects. He is certified as a Personal Fitness Trainer and also Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant.
